Trained volunteers are matched in a 1:1 relationship with a student. (1st -8th grade). Tutoring takes place at host sites (churches, schools or other community agencies) in communities of about 15 student/tutor pairs. Each site has a Coordinator, School Liaison and a Club Leader who help facilitate the program. Tutoring is for one hour and focuses on reading, math and homework help.
This 30 minute program is the faith component of Whiz Kids that includes music, a short activity and a message about God's great love for us. Parents must elect to have their child participate in Club Time by signing a separate permission slip.
Many activities are provided for tutors and students to enjoy together outside of their weekly sessions. The Whiz Kids Rodeo is one of our year-end celebrations at the National Western Arena. Kids and tutors enjoy horses, a petting zoo, inflatables, games, face painting and much, much more!
